Mysuru: In the by-election for Nanjangud Assembly constituency, going by ground reality, it seems Congress candidate Kalale Keshavamurthy is having an edge over BJP candidate V Srinivas Prasad.
In the last Assembly election, Kalale Keshavamurthy representing JD (S) lost to Srinivas Prasad by a margin of 8941 votes. Srinivas Prasad representing Congress then had secured 50,784 votes while Kalale Keshavamurthy managed to get 41,843. Though Srinivas Prasad is the sitting MLA from Nanjangud constituency, people are upset due lack of developmental works during his tenure in the constituency. On the other hand, Kalale Keshavamurthy, immaterial of any party is sharing a good rapport among the people in the constituency. Apart from this, one more advantage for Kalale is his candidature from Congress this time and Srinivas Prasad’s allegiance to BJP. The people in the constituency especially the dalits who are in majority here usually prefer to vote for Congress but still people need to wait and watch whether it will ape the Uttar Pradesh results.
Kalale also is going all out in his efforts in campaigning while on the other hand Srinivas Prasad is much dependent on BJP party workers. Going by ground reality, in Nanjangud town, people are in favour of Kalale Keshavamurthy while in villages people are inclined towards Srinivas Prasad. Most of senior BJP leaders including Shobha Karandalaje, Somanna and Renukarcharya are camping in Nanjangud. For most of these leaders Nanjangud has become of prime importance.
In Gundlupet constituency, chances for Geetha Mahadevaprasad are more. The people in the constituency want to get her elected for various reasons including completion off various developmental works undertaken by her husband Late Mahadevaprasad. Apart from this sympathy is also other factor.
