Dharwad: The residents of Ashraya Colony at Jagadish Nagar in Hubballi expressed ire on few officials of the Nirmiti Kendra who have allegedly shown negligence in building the houses under the scheme for those residents who were displaced for airport project.

After holding a protest infront of DC office in Dharwad, Premanath Chikkatumbal, Secretary of Ashraya Residents Welfare Committee, Jagadishnagar, Hubballi said that nearly 184 houses of the total 612 houses located at Jagadishnagar were demolished and 4 acre of land was handed over to the Airport Authority of India for Hubballi Airport expansion work.

Later, after much protest, the government identified a land adjacent to the earlier location and handed over the Ashraya house construction work to the Nirmiti Kendra.

However, the houses being constructed by the Nirmiti Kendra are of poor quality and unfit to reside. The government is spending Rs 8.15 Crore to construct these houses. Former DC Rajendra Cholan had assured that these houses would be constructed in six months and handed over to the displaced. But now, more than a year has lapsed and the construction work has not been completed, they charged.

Sub-standard quality materials are used for construction work. Prima facie it appears that the officials have duped the government and also the people, he alleged.

Hence, the government should conduct a probe into the house construction work and initiate stern action against the erring officials, he demanded.

The protesters demanded the district administration to hold a meeting with HDMC officials and ensure that the Ashraya house beneficiaries got the title deeds in 15 days.
