Mysuru: A workshop on ‘Opportunities and challenges in scaling up improved cook stoves in Karnataka,’ was jointly organised by the Organisation for the Development of People (ODP) and The Energy Resource Institute (TERI), at the ODP campus in Bannimantap on Saturday April 25.
Addressing the gathering ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath said that plans are afoot to install solar power systems in all hostels across the District.

Pointing out that there were 227 hostels in the district, “Solar power system will be installed at one hostel in every taluk initially. Depending on the success of the system, measures will be taken to install solar system in the rest of the hostels. It is also planned to implement the project in all government offices and a decision in this regard will be taken at the ZP’s next KDP meeting.”

The installation of solar power systems will help reduce power consumption by 70%, she said and lauded the ODP for having taken multiple initiatives to promote clean energy technology in its working areas, through the promotion of low cost energy efficient cook stoves, construction of biogas plants and setting up solar home light systems. She also said that such workshops will help to explore potential options for promotion of clean energy technologies in Karnataka.

RDPR Department Deputy Director Parameshwar, TERI-Bengaluru’s Dr. Janakraj Murli and Jeevan Prakash Mohanty, Project Director Kumar and others were present.
