Mysuru: A youth was allegedly killed by his roommate for spying on his activities here at the Vishwakarma Hostel in Saraswathipuram police limits on Thursday. The victim was identified as Mohan Kumar 22 year old a native ofGulbarga. He was stabbed in the neck by a 17 year old minor boy of Chamaraja Nagara. The accused was studying for an ITI certificate at the Vishweshwaraiah College in city according to the Vishwakarma hostel authorities.
Mohan Kumar, who, was pursuing his final year engineering in Sri Jaya Chamarajendra Engineer College in the city, had also been selected for a job through campus selection. Sources said both Mohan and accused were sharing a room earlier, but recently after a verbal altercation between the two, the hostel authorities had shifted the minor boy to another room. However the minor had involved himself in some illegal activities, and was addicted to smoking and alcohol. Further, a few months back, he had demanded a smart phone from his mother, but when she rejected his request, he absconded from the hostel in anger, said the victim’s current roommate.
When hostel authority came to know of his absence, they lodged a ‘missing’ complaint at the Saraswathipuram police station on March 13. It was after one month that police traced him to Goa, and succeeded in bringing him back to the hostel. At the time, police had also warned the hostel authorities to send him back to his family.
However his mother had persuaded the hostel authorities to let him remain at the hostel to enable him continue his education. She had also asked Mohan Kumar to keep an eye on her son. As a result few days back Mohan Kumar had informed accused’s mother of his bad habits, all in good faith.
On Thursday afternoon the minor perpetrator of the crime, came directly to Mohan’s room and stabbed his neck with a knife. He then jumped out from the window and ran away from the hostel campus, say sources. Mohan died on the way to the hospital
Police Commissioner M A Saleem visited the crime spot and said, “we are hunting for the accused, and we have informed the family of victim. We had also directed the Vishwakarma Hostel authority to appoint a security guard and a warden for better security”.
A case has been registered in Saraswathipuram Police station.
