Mysuru: A meeting of wardens of student hostels in the district was held at the ZP auditorium yesterday. Srinivasa Prasad who had visited and learnt the reality of the hostel conditions from the children hospitalized on account of food poisoning, questioned the wardens gathered, ““ will you look after your own children like this and feed them food given in the hostel?”
He sternly advised the wardens to use the funds given by the Govt for the poor children who are staying the hostel, else severe action would be taken and criminal cases would be initiated.
“Many poor families send their children to the hostel, just because they cant feed them due to poverty. But wardens like you l misuse the funds and give unhygienic food to the children resulting in their unnecessary suffering”, added.
Reacting to ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath’s proposal for implementation of a five-point formula to improve the condition of hostels he said until wardens don’t treat the children like their own, no plan will work. “They should work for the welfare of children which they don’t do at all” he averred. He compared the situation to a similar one in china, when he said, “If this happened in china you people would have been shot dead for the crime you committed and Obama who visited India praised India without knowing the ground reality where hostel children are given the unhygienic food, he added
ZP President Dr. Pushpa Amarnath requested to give power to take immediate action on the wardens who are caught in corruption to Srinivasa Prasad, as they use influence from the higher authorities.
“Increment will be stopped, and one month salary will deducted as punishment for those wardens involved in the corruption activities in future and every month the development should be updated to the concerned officers”, she said.
She asked the permission and support from the state Government for the introduction of a Biometric system and CCTV camera implementation to monitor the condition and work in the hostels in coming days.
Awards will be issued annually for wardens who truly work on the basis of development, she said.
P.A. Gopal, ZP CEO said that the cases of misuse of funds by wardens at hostels would be handed over to Lokayukta for a probe and taluk and district officers, will visit the hostels for monitoring the development.
DC C. Shikha, ZP Social Justice Committee Chairman Javarappa and wardens of hostels from various parts of the district were present.
