Mysuru: You might have seen thieves burgling houses, shops and banks. This particular thief in Mysuru is different.

The accused is Govinda, a resident of Alahalli in Mysuru. He is alleged to have stolen the honorarium amount earmarked for distribution among guests. Govinda used to browse through the list of functions for the day published in news papers and made it his profession.

On January 16, Sanskrit school had organised a programme and had invited Musician Ravi Shankar Mishra. After the programme cash-cover unmarked for him was missing and later it was known that it was lifted by Govinda.

On January 17, a religious function was underway at the same venue and the honorarium amount was reportedly kept in individual covers to be presented to the  guests during their felicitation. The cash-covers went missing on that day too.

Public and the organisers suspected theft after repeated incidents of cash-covers being stolen. A programme was organised at Ram Mandir in Govindanagar in Krishnamurthypuram on Jan 29. The organisers came to know about a unknown person at the venue. They had kept an eye on his movements. When Govinda laid his hand on the cash covers, the alert organisers managed to nab him red-handed, bashed him up and handed him over to Police.

He also accepted that he was using the money for horse race betting. Now he is detained by Krishnaraj police who are investigating.
