Mysore :The six elephants camping in the Palace premises and undergoing Dasara Jumboo Savari rehearsals were offered special puja by the District Administration yesterday on account of Ganesha Chaturthi festival.

Though none of the royal family members participated as they are observing a year-long mourning after the passing away of Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar on Dec.10, 2013, the puja was performed by the Palace priest Prahlad Rao, witnessed by Palace Board Deputy Director T.S. Subramanya, City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem, Deputy Conservator of Forests Dr. V. Karikalan, Veterinarian Dr. H.T. Nagaraj and others.

The Dasara jumbos were treated to modaka and kadubu, said to be the favourite sweets of Lord Ganesha, apart from chunks of jaggery, coconuts, sugarcane and other food items. After the treat, all the six elephants raised their trunks together as a mark of gratitude to the people of Mysore.

The second batch of elephants is expected to arrive in city on Sept.10 and a total of 14 elephants will be participating in the Dasara procession.
