Mysore: A silent protest was held by Organization for the Development of People (ODP)  here on Thursday July 24 against continuous sexual assault cases reported from across the nation.

Similar protests were organized at Mandya, Kodagu, Charamaraja Nagar and Kollegal. Nearly 1000 to 2000 people gathered at the protest venues holding placards  and wearing black ribbons on their foreheads reflecting their anguish over the  recent incidents.

Speaking to media, Rev Fr Staney D’A Almeida, Director of ODP Mysore said that there was a need to check such cases of sexual crimes. The accused should be punished immediately and Government  should provide special care and safety for women, he demanded.

Even BJP protested against rape incidents under the leadership of its local unit President Hemanth Kumar Gowda. Kannada Rakshana Vedike also joined the protest.
