Mysore: The Dept of Civil Engineering,  NIE, Mysore organised National Level Civil Engineering Technical Event on Friday, at NIE Diamond Jubilee Sports Complex, Mysore.

The event  was inaugurated by H J Padmanabha Chief Manager HAL Bangalore and presided over by M Sreepada Rao,  President NIE Board of Management.

Dr. G Sarangapani and DR G L Shekar Prinicpal were also present.

AAKAR is a biennial national level technical fest of civil engineering department of The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore. Since its inception in 2006, AAKAR has grown to become one of the largest civil engineering fests of the state.  AAKAR 2014 is the fifth in the series.

The aim of AAKAR is to promote the creative instincts of students in the field of civil engineering through various inter collegiate competitions in areas like planning and designing of civil engineering systems, public speaking, technical writing etc. It also provides a launching platform for budding engineers and harness creative skills and personality development.

The NIE alumni have supported AAKAR through the years and it is expected that around 150 alumni are likely to participate in AAKAR 2014. These alumni are members of  the forum for civil engineers-NIE FORCE-which is a first of its kind organization formulated in any civil engineering college.

AAKAR 2014 will see,  for the first time, innovative events like “back in time”  and “village planning”  which have a noble intention, viz.  connect students to their rich heritage and humble past.

AAKAR 2014 will also have  other competitions like Impromptu talk, paper presentation, technical quiz, AUTOCAD 3D-modelling, a geotechnical event, treasure hunt and technical debates.

With around 160 students from 30 colleges participating in the fest , it is expected to be a grand success.
