Mysore District Administration celebrates D Devaraj Urs Anniversary

Mysore: The Mysore District Administration in a joint collaboration with Zilla Panchayath and Backward Classes Welfare Society here on Wednesday August 20, celebrated the 99thBirth Anniversary of Former Chief of Karnataka D Devaraj Urs at Senate Bhavan Mysore.

Vidhana Sabha Member, H D Kote, Chikkamaadu addressing the gathering said, “D Devaraj Urs was a simple man and a great social leader whom Karnataka has produced.”

Speaking about Devaraj Urs, he said that he worked for the development of the society, especially backward classes. His vision was for an egalitarian society, which he strived for by providing reservation in education and employment for backward and minority classes.

Speaking about his contribution for the welfare of the society he said that Devaraj Urs was the first Chief Minister in the country to implement the ‘Land Reformation Act’. He stressed that the state attained the zenith in development during his tenure.

He opined that the youngsters must be made aware of his revolutionary contribution towards social justice in order to celebrate his birth anniversary in a meaningful manner.

MLA, Krishna Raja Constituency, M K Somashekar highlighted his contribution towards agriculture and backward classes and his continuous efforts to make the people of minority classes attain a respectable status in the society. He added the Devaraj Urs gave microscopic minority communities a scope in the societies, even in politics.

Dr C Naganna Director, Prasara Ranga, Mysore University informed the gathering about D Devaraj Urs and his leadership quality.

He said D Devaraj Urs was great orator and good reader as well. D Devaraj Urs had an immense concern about Backward Classes communities and he worked hard for their welfare. Nation and Karnataka have not seen a leader like D Devaraj Urs still who has thrown his position for the welfare of poor people.

He also added that more than 70% of present MLA’s are brought up D Devaraj Urs and they are not at all concerned about him now and this shows disrespect towards D Devaraj Urs.

Youth should adopt the thoughts of D Devaraj Urs and read about him and his work done in the past.

MLA, Chamaraja Constituency, Vasu; Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayath, P A Gopal; Additional District Commissioner, Archana and other officers from the Public Welfare Department were present.
