Mysore: The Dasara Aero-Modelling Show, organised by the Mysore Flying Association, witnessed 12 model aircrafts including two helicopters at the Torchlight Parade Ground in Bannimantap here on September 29. However, probably due to lack of timely publicity, public participation was very less and disappointing.
The star of the event was eight-year-old Aditya, an aircraft model enthusiast, the youngest in India and a student of Delhi Public School in Bangalore, who enthralled those present with his Rapitor S-50 model.
One of the models is fitted with a camera to take aerial pictures and can shower flower petals during functions. Some are battery-operated while others run on petrol and methanol.
The event was inaugurated by MLA Tanveer Sait. Speaking on the occasion, he regretted that the District Administration has not been able to attract large number of tourists this Dasara and blamed the rains for playing spoilsport for the various Dasara-related events.
DC C. Shikha, speaking on the occasion, said that they have been in constant contact with the Ministry of Defence to conduct the Air Show; however, they are yet to give the nod. She rued that the event might not take place as it was too late for it and even if they granted permission in a day or two, it will not be possible to conduct the Air Show as the Torchlight Parade Ground has to be prepared for the event.
MUDA Commissioner S. Palaiah, SP Abhinav Ashok Khare, Palace Board Director K.M. Gayathri and others were present.
