Mysore: The district in-charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad inspected the badly damaged Jodi Tenginamara Road (J.T. Road) between Hotel Highway Circle and JSS Medical College Hostel in Bannimantap ‘A’ Layout in city on Saturday October 25.

Minister Sreenivasa Prasad, who was on his way to participate in the 13th death anniversary of former Minister T.N. Narasimhamurthy, stopped by the road for an inspection of the stretch of the road which has been posing danger to motorists.

Minister Sreenivasa Prasad said that he had held a meeting with Mysore City Corporation Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath after he visited the road earlier and had instructed him to take up the works on Jodi Tenginamara Road on priority.

The tender had been called to take up the works and the same will be opened in the next 10 days and later the technical bid and financial bid would be taken up and soon the works would commence, he added.

Minister Prasad said the road was in an unmotorable condition and needed immediate attention. “It is difficult to commute on this road on normal days, in case of rain it only worsens.”

He mentioned that Corporators and MLAs should also take a note of the bad conditions of the roads in their respective areas and inform the concerned officials to take up repair works.

“Repair works of roads that are causing problems for the vehicles to commute must be taken up immediately. Irrespective of them being under MCC, MUDA or PWD, the quality of road must be maintained,” he added.

According to sources, Rs. 3.38 crore has been earmarked for development of Jodi Tenginamara Road. Previously, the repair works on Jodi Tenginamara Road was taken up in 2001 when B.K. Prakash was the Mayor. Since then the representatives have come and gone but Jodi Tenginamara Road lies unattended and neglected.

The road has witnessed number of accidents, some fatal, in the past three years. City Police have been helpless in regulating traffic on this road because of its bad condition. The road which leads to many godowns, also witnesses lorries laden with cement, iron rods, food grains, petroleum, etc. being driven in high-speeds unmindful of the movement of civilian motorists who ultimately are the victims of accidents.
