Massive support seen in Mysuru for the state wide bandh

Mysuru: Various Kannada and other public organisations staged a massive show of strength during protests flowing from the state wide bandh call in Mysuru today The Bandh call got a massive response, with crowds gathering and conducting demonstrations in different parts of the city including, at some of the major junctions, such as K R Circle, Vinobha road and  many other places.

Forming human chains at different places in the city, the protesters raised their voices against the Tamil Nadu government. The shops at major roads of the city were closed, as the protesters during their march, insisted that  the shop owners close down their shops.

However, government departments such as the Mysuru City Corporation offices, Mysuru Urban Development Authority worked as usual but the public inflow into the offices was minimal.

The ambulance services, were not disrupted as the protesters, twice  made way for the ambulance, even though they had formed a human chain at the K R circle. However, the outpatient admission inflow to K R hospital  decreased by 50 percent from the usual. Routine activities in the hospital continued as usual with the doctors and hospital employees was present at their duty stations as usual.

Traffic disrupted

At the metropole circle, the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike members formed a human chain  which brought traffic movement to halt.

At the K R Circle, Falcon tyres employees who have been staging a protest for the past  27 days extended their support to the bandh and assembled at K R circle supporting other pro-Kannada organisations such as Kannada Hitarakshana Vedike and many more. Together, they formed a human chain. Karunadu Sene protestors staged a protest at Agrahara circle. Some of the shop owners had also voluntarily closed their shops and supported the bandh.

The vehicular movement at many areas came to a grinding halt. The traffic movement at JLB road, Vinobha road, K R Circle, Agrahara, New Sayyajirao road suffered. DCP Vinayak Patil who was also patrolling in the main areas of city took information from the police officials who were present. Police were deployed in each circle and on the main roads of the city in order to divert the vehicles from the protest venues.

Commuters stranded

The commuters at the suburban bus stand were stranded as there was no bus facility since the morning. They continued to wait at the bus stand as they were assured by some of the KSRTC officials that the buses would ply after 6 pm.

Kalaiah, a resident of Ramnahalli who had come all the way to Mysuru in the morning to carry goods to his village had no other option, but to stay put in the city bus stand and wait for the Bundh to end
