Mysuru: A major fire broke out on Chamundi Hills in Mysuru on Tuesday evening, devastating a large swathe of the fragile ecosystem.
Reckoned to be the largest fire in recent years, it was first noticed around 4 p.m. More than 70 people, including 40 Forest Department personnel, were fighting to douse the flames.
Four fire extinguishers were pressed into service, but they could not reach the spot given the terrain. So volunteers from the local community pitched in and tried to put out the flames using water containers.
