Mysore: The post mortem on the leopard which was found dead near Veeranahosahalli close to Nagarahole National Park on Sunday, has indicated that the big cat died of cardiac arrest. The leopard was entangled in a wire and officials said that in its struggle to free itself, the feline died of cardiac arrest.

While there were suspicions that the leopard might have died as it was caught in a snare, Director of Nagarahole National Park, R Gokul, said that Forest department staff who combed the region on Monday found no indications of any snares, except the wire of a solar fence.

However, an FIR has been filed and the assistant conservator of forests will investigate the matter. Gokul said that the leopard was caught between lantana bushes and a solar fence cable, near an elephant trench. After it got caught, the leopard tried to free itself and was suspended above the trench.

The forest department officials learned about the incident around 7 pm. Even before they could rescue the animal, it had breathed its last, he said.

It can be recalled that a radio-collared leopard was found dead, suspended from a tree near S Kallahalli village of Mysore taluk on September 12.
