Kaveri gallery to be set up in Mysuru soon

Mysuru: The government has initiated significant steps to attract tourists to the heritage city by establishing the Kaveri gallery in one of the heritage buildings in the city. The proposed Kaveri gallery is to be set up on the lines of the Ganga gallery, Brahmaputhra gallery that provides all the information about the major rivers of Asia.

The aim of the proposed Kaveri river gallery is not only to attract tourists who are eager to know about one of the important rivers  of the western ghat but also aims to provide information for research scholars, especially for geography students.

As part of the exercise for setting up the Kaveri Gallary, a committee headed by the Additional General Secretary of the government Arvind Jadav, on Thursday visited the Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion and Wellington Building for an onsite examination.

Jayalakshmi Vilas Mansion, one of the ignored monuments of the heritage city that is located in the campus of the the university of Mysore, is most likely, to be selected as the venue for one of the most educative galleries on a river, for the River Kaveri.

The panel of officials headed by Arvind Jadav and others  including  Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner C G Betsurmath, Knowledge Commission Secretary Mukundarao, Mysore University Vice Chancellor K S Rangappa have discussed about a suitable building and documentation structure of the gallery at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday.

Speaking on the future plan, the secretary of the state tourism department, Aravind Jadhav said that the union government intended to establish gallery with the assistance of State Knowledge Commission and Tourism Department. 

the entire information about cultural and social significance of Kaveri river and its connection with environment will be included in this gallery which also helps to conserve the water resource of the river. The information will be showcased and documented through digital and print documents which include video documentaries and photography.
