Mysore: Institute of Development Studies, University of Mysuru in collaboration with the Institute of Town planners, India, organised a 3 days International Conference on ” Town and Country Planning Education” at Rani Bahudhur Auditorium.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr D S Meshram Former Chief Planner, TCPO, Govt Of India New Delhi and Emeritus President ITPI New Delhi and was presided over by Prof K S Rangappa, Vice Chancellor, University of Mysore.

Prof P Padmavathi Vice Chancellor JNAFA University, Hyderabad expressed her happiness about the nature and purpose of the conference.She spoke about the latest trends in urban planning , like Smart cities, clean cities and challenges to achieve those objectives..
She opined that in order to develop we may end up loosing our natural resources, flora and Fauna. She reiterated that development includes the control of crime, traffic free and good drainage and sanitary system as well.
Prof Anthony G O Yeh Former Director, Centre of Urban Planning HKU, Hong Kong speaking to delegates said that he has been following the Dept of Development Studies, Mysuru, which has a rich history of 40 years for a long time. “Development is the big challenge to the world. Planning and policy making matters in any development. For any infrastructure planning is very much necessary which can be attained only through a scientific approach”, he stressed. Economic Development and the density varies in Asia when it compared to West. he added.
Prof A N Sachithanandan, President ITPI New Delhi, Dean Mesai University Chennai, J B Kshirsagar Chief Planner TCPO New Delhi, Krishne Gowda Organising Secretary were present in the inaugural function.
A planning book of Mysore University was released during this conference.
Architects from different parts of India, Students from Schools of Planning and Architecture namely SPA New Delhi,SPA Bhopal, SPA Vijayawada and IIT’s Kharagpur and Roorkee and many foreign delegates were present.
The advantages and disadvantages of planning, what is the nature of planning education Today, what kinds of town and country Planners are needed globally and why and how to frame and ask planning questions which common people will readily understand and correlate to their experience and needs will be discussed in detail at this conference.
