Mysuru: More than 300 residents of Giridarshini Layout, Nandini Layout and Alanahalli staged a rasta-roko by blocking Mysuru-T.Narasipur Road in city this morning demanding adequate supply of drinking water. The angry residents also set tyres on fire.
The residents alleged that the authorities concerned had not acted on several complaints lodged by them and demanded MLA G.T. Devegowda and Village Panchayat members to arrive at the spot.
They said that drinking water to their residences was being supplied once in a month or 20 days which was causing problems to them.
Alleging that area waterman was corrupt, the protestors said that the water was being supplied for only those who paid bribe and added that though the supply of water was inadequate they received hefty bills every month.
On receiving information, DCP M.M. Mahadevaiah, Nazarbad Police Inspector K.C. Poovaiah, Udayagiri Police Inspector Srikanth and other Police personnel arrived at the spot and persuaded the agitators to withdraw the protest.
The residents, however, called off the stir but warned of protesting again if their problems were not solved at the earliest.
