Hooch tragedy: Hallikere villagers stage protest against apathy of officials

Mysore:  Villagers of Hallikere in Piriyapattana taluk staged a protest in front of the office of the Excise Joint Commissioner on Tuesday July 29  by placing the body of a woman who deliberately consumed spurious liquor after her husband died  consuming the same. The protest was organised by the ACICM.

The protestors alleged that the officials have failed to initiate action against those responsible for the tragedy.

M Lakshman, Convenor of ACICM said the condition of two more who have consumed spurious liquor are critical and alleged the officials have not taken the case seriously.

The protestors also took the Excise Deputy Commissioner who met them. Later the Tahsildar Naveen Joseph who arrived at the spot, announced a compensation of Rs 20,000 to the families of the deceased apart from Rs 2000 for the cremation of Lakshman.

Krishnayya, President of Adivasi Parishat, Rajesh, Shanker, Ramesh of Dalita Mahasabha and others were present.
