Mysuru: “Proper education and awareness are the only ways the youth will learn to prevent HIV/ AIDS”, said Dr Raghu Kumar during an AIDS Awareness Program in T.T. L Commerce college on Saturday January 24.
Addressing the gathering, he educated the students’ on the difference between AIDS and HIV and precautionary measures to be taken to avoid these diseases from spreading. Most of the AIDS patients are in age group of 20-40 years, thus the target audience to be educated is the youth.
Currently there are over 25 lakh patients in India, due to lack of information with regards to the deadly diseases – AIDS, he declared.
Manipur and Nagaland that have several drug addicts’ tops the list in AIDS affected as well, followed by Maharashtra, AP, and Karnataka with 2.5 lakh patients affected by AIDS.
Mysuru Urban alone has 12,000 patients apart from which there are positives in Nanjangud, T-Narsipura, Hunsur, HD Kote, KR Pete and Periyapatna.
Prof H N Ashwath Narayan delivered the presidential address. Prof Venkataramyya and Dr Preethi were also present for the programme.
