Dasara Celebration venue still uncertain

Mysore: As the dispute over royal properties continues and the chief minister unwilling to talk to the royal family on the subject of Dasara celebrations, the Dasara  celebrations executive committee continued to remain confused.

On Wednesday the committee members headed by district in charge minister V Srinivasa Prasad who went to Bangalore to extend a formal invitation to chief minister for the dasara festivities broached the issue of the celebrations and vis a vis the stand of the palace authorities. Committee members urged the chief minister to speak to Pramoda Devi Wadiyar who had reportedly suggested the committee to organize the celebrations from outside the palace premises as the family is in a state of mourning and celebrations from palace premises will not augur well with the family’s sentiments. But chief minister in turn suggested the minister V Srinivasa Prasad and other members who were in the delegation to speak to Pramoda Devi and convince her on the issue including the predicament of the government.

Some of the members of the committee suggested that the chief minister himself intervene and speak to Wadiyar’s widow. He declined and asked the committee itself to convince her of the importance of the celebrations. Sources said that “ As palaces have been acquired through acts and it would not be so easy to settle the dispute with in a stipulated time, but government is having a open mind on the issue ” chief minister told the committee members.

It may be recalled here that Maharani Pramoda Devi at a press meet not only demanded the government to resolve the issues related to Mysore royal family, later she reportedly suggested the district in charge minister who met her recently not to organize the festivities and functions from palace premises. It was revealed that she has even suggested the government to begin the grand finale procession from Anjaney temple located just outside the palace north gate through which the procession passes out.  As a consequence of this dispute, last week the elephant reception function was organized at the Aranya Bhavan.
