Mysore: A student, hailing from K.R. Pet in Mandya District, who chooses to remain anonymous, has said that he got an e-mail in the name of Reserve Bank of India that he had won Rs. 4.98 crore as prize from a UK based company asking him to provide details of his bank account and identity for credit of the same.

The ambitious student, next day, got a call from 83750-25196, said to have originated from Uttar Pradesh in which the person at the other end asked the student to remit Rs. 50,000 as tax to Account number 20164173024 held by one Sunil Paul and the student told the person at the other end that he would remit Rs. 21,000 as he could not afford to credit Rs. 50,000 to which the caller agreed asking the student to credit it the next day.

As agreed, the student took Rs. 21,000 from his father and credited the same which was duly acknowledged by the caller who asked the student to open a Facebook account with a given secret code.

Next day, the student got another call asking him to arrange for Rs. 50,000 as expenses to complete legal formalities  to which the student responded by crediting another Rs. 15,000 and got a certificate for the same with the seal of the Reserve Bank of India (needless to say fake). The student is also learnt to have credited another Rs.9,000 in two instalments of Rs. 5,000 and Rs. 4,000 each to the caller’s account.

The student, who grew suspicious over repeated requests for money brought the same to the notice of journalists who contacted State Bank of India only to realise that the student had been taken for ride at a cost of Rs. 45,000.
