Mysuru: In a counselling programme conducted for rowdy- sheeters by the City Police, they were asked to refrain from anti-social activities and return to the mainstream.

The police conducted the innovative programme at CAR grounds behind Mysore Race Club premises.

City Police had invited Dr. Umapathy, Professor, Department of Studies in Psychology, University of Mysore, to counsel these rowdy-sheeters during which they were taught pranayama and meditation besides being asked to refrain from anti-social activities and return to the mainstream.

Few of the rowdy-sheeters, who were present, told DCP A.N. Rajanna that they were not involved in any acts of violence, but the Police framed them in a case related to one of their relatives. Another person, aged about 55, said that he was not involved in any of the crimes reported in the city since many years and requested for deletion of his name from the list of rowdy-sheeters.

Responding to the requests, DCP Rajanna advised them to submit applications at the jurisdictional Police Stations and added that the department would look into their pleas by conducting investigation to know about their conduct and later decide on whether to delete their names from the list.

It may be recalled, the Police had recently conducted counselling for members of Modus Operandi Bureau (MOB) at the same venue. More than 300 rowdy-sheeters, listed in various Police Stations across the city, had assembled for the counselling session. Shockingly, the number of rowdy- sheeters in Mysuru city has gone up to 900 as compared to 250 about two years ago.
