Mysuru: In the wake of rampant chain-snatching incidents being reported in city, on Thursday November 21 the City Police Commissioner Dr M.A. Saleem declared that the Police would invoke the ‘Goonda Act’ against these chain-snatchers.
Dr. Saleem said that chain- snatchers would be booked under the ‘Goonda Act’ as they were creating panic in the society, especially among womenfolk.
In this regard, the City Police conducted ‘Operation Shubhodaya’, a massive vehicle checking drive at various junctions in city.
The drive began at 6 am and concluded at 9 am. The drive also saw Traffic Police joining hands with Civil Police, who were conducting ‘Operation Shubhodaya’ to check for chain-snatchers, vehicle thefts, helmetless riding, driving without seatbelt, driving license and other related documents.
The Police also booked several cases during the drive. Devaraja Traffic Inspector R.P. Ashok booked cases against three of Mysuru City Corporation garbage collection vehicle drivers for not possessing Driver’s License and driving without uniform. A total of Rs. 600 fine (Rs. 500 for DL and Rs. 100 for driving without uniform). Drivers have also been warned of vehicle seizure on failing to produce DL and vehicle documents.
When asked about the total cases booked this morning, City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem said that they were concentrating only on curbing the menace and keepng a check on anti-social elements and imposing fine was not their only goal.
