Mysore: With the rising water level at KRS reservoir the officials at Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) are on high alert, which was declared on Monday August 4, after the region experienced extensive rains.

The water in the reservoir is less than 4 ft away from its maximum level of 124.80 ft and the entire dam area has been fortified by the KRS and Srirangapatna Police.

With heavy downpour in the catchment areas of River Cauvery in the past week, the inflow into the reservoir has swollen and keeping in mind the dam’s safety, almost half of the volume is released as outflow to the river and various other canals.

According to CNNL officials, the inflow is at 33,400 cusecs while the outflow is at 17,000 cusecs, down from morning’s 21,031 cusecs. It may take a few more days for the dam to reach the brim, they added.

Water released from the dam directly to Visveswaraya Canal is 2,998 cusecs while 200 cusecs is released to the Right Bank Low Level Canal and 58 cusecs to Left Bank Low Level Canal. A total of 506 cusecs is released to Varuna Canal.

Water released from the river to Chikkadevaraya Canal is 850 cusecs, Girija Canal-855 cusecs, Devaraya Canal-51 cusecs and Bangaradoddi Canal-42 cusecs.

CNNL technical staff have been deputed at various spots of the dam to keep an eye on the inflow and outflow of water.

CNNL engineers are reporting to the State Government thrice a day about the reservoir level and the release of water to Cauvery River downstream and canals.

With strict vigil in place, tourists are scanned at the Entry Gate of the Dam and vehicles are not allowed beyond the parking place provided for them, also are thoroughly scanned to avoid any unforeseen eventualities.
