Bomb scare at Mysuru: One held for threatening to explode SP office

Mysuru: The Nazarbad Police, have arrested a mentally challenged person who allegedly threatened to explode the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) at Jalapuri in city.

The nabbed, who made a hoax call to SP’s office from a landline threatening to blow up the office has been identified as Shafi Ahmed, a resident of Bharathinagar in city.

Nazarbad Inspector K.C. Poovaiah and Udayagiri Inspector Srikanth, traced Shafi by the call he made to the Control Room at 12.30pm from a Public Call Office (PCO) near a circle in Rajivnagar, they then arrested Shafi, who was roaming around nearby.

During interrogation, Shafi is said to have confessed to have called up the City Police Control Room at the Office of the City Police Commissioner and threatened that a bomb had been planted at the SP office which would explode soon.

It is said that Shafi had been recently discharged from NIMHANS in Bengaluru.

Police, who have booked case under Sections 66B, 507 of the IPC against Shafi are investigating.

Earlier, Personnel at the Control Room immediately alerted jurisdictional Nazarbad Police and also the SP office when SP Abhinav Khare was at the office, when they received the call.

The call however was declared a hoax after ACPs Jaimaruthi, K.N.Madaiah, Umesh G. Shet, Nazarbad Inspector K.C.Poovaiah launched a futile search for the bomb.

Unwilling to take chances, sleuths also searched the office of the Police Commissioner.
