Mysore: The State BJP has urged the Government to order a probe into the alleged failure of the Mysore Police to provide protection to Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Director-General Rashmi Mahesh, who was attacked in the ATI campus recently.

BJP spokesperson and former State Women’s Commission Chairperson C Manjula, met Rashmi at her office on Tuesday October 21.

They alleged that the Police Department was aware of the tension at ATI, are said that they yielded to pressure from their higher authorities.

Urging Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to act against the Police Commissioner and other Police officers for ‘negligence of duty’, Manjula claimed that the Police arrested only the contract employees, but not those who were actually behind the attack.

Claiming that the attack on Rashmi was planned, she alleged that a conspiracy was hatched by a few sacked employees, who instigated their family members against Rashmi.

Though the Police were aware of the tension that prevailed after the body was taken to ATI premises, they did nothing to provide protection to Rashmi, although she exposed misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs. 100 crore and administrative lapses during the tenure of former ATI Director General Amita Prasad.

Urging the Government to act on the report submitted by Rashmi, Manjula sought adequate protection for the ATI DG.

“The attack on a senior woman IAS officer in the Chief Minister’s native district raises doubts about the safety of women in the State,” Manjula claimed.

She flayed Home Minister KJ George for not visiting the city and extending support to the assaulted woman officer.

Alleging that the State Government has not taken the assault case seriously, Manjula said that she would discuss the matter with Opposition Leader Jagadish Shettar.

Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma, leaders T.N. Shanta, Vidya Urs, Suvarna, K. Usha and others were present.
