Mysuru: After inaugurating the‘Tribal utsava’ organized by the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute (KSTRI) at Fine Arts College in Manasagangotri campus,Social Welfare minister H Anjaneya minister said many other backward class people suffered social discriminations like untouchability in yesteryears. But, now they have come into the main stream through education and occupied various positions and thus discrimination is disappearing.
Likewise, tribal people, living in forests, are still experiencing various social discriminations and coming out of the forests bring this practice to an end, he said. Citing a few tribal communities in the state, the minister said many people are living in a wild condition with tigers and elephants. Many have lost lives due to human animal conflicts.
Government is putting utmost efforts on development of tribal people.Authorities must ensure their development by providing them government facilities like water facility, better infrastructure.
Further Anjaneya said tribal youths have good talents there is a need to recognize and bring out the hidden talents. To encourage and to promote art teams KSTRI contributed Rs 50,000 each for the Koragas of Dakshina Kannada and Jeenukuraba community teams.
The festival, which is first of its kind in the state, is an opportunity for civilized society to enjoy and gain knowledge on various tribal communities in the state. Meanwhile it is also an opportunity for tribal people to exchange their lifestyle, food and culture among their counter parts, says Director of Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute, T T Basavanagowda.
Over 20 tribal communities across the state participated and demonstrated their culture. Tribal cultural troops from Udupi, Dakshina Kannada Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, H D Kote, Chamarajanagar demonstrated their folk lore arts in a procession from Maharaja’s College Grounds to Fine Arts College. Social Welfare minister H Anjaneya also joined in the procession.
Revenue minister V Srinivas Prasad, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat president B Pushpa Amarnath, Mysuru Deputy Mayor Mahadevamma and others were present.
