Mallalli Falls is situated in the northern region of Kodagu District, Karnataka at the foothills of Pushpagiri mountains, around 25 km from Somwarpet and 265 km from Bangalore.
The Kumaradhara river is the main water source for this waterfall. It later flows through Kukke Subrahmanya and merges with the Netravati -the lifeline of Mangalore at Uppinangadi
From Somwrapet there are very few buses to Hanchinalli which is the nearest village to the water falls. Hiring a private vehicle is a better idea to reach Mallalli falls.
However it must be kept in mind, that the roads leading to the falls are in a very bad condition. Even SUV’s with four wheel drive have a tough time negotiating these roads.
Monsoon as usual is the best time to see the real Mallalli Falls as there will be plenty of water which gushes down from the river and the mist and the green hills around add to the beauty of the Falls. The water usually dries up during summer.
However the best time to visit the falls is between 10 am to 4 pm; after which the area becomes dark and it is not safe for the people visiting the falls as there is no security system in place because of its remoteness.
Keeping a vigilant eye out for the leeches and other insects is helpful.
