Mysuru: The official announcement by Guinness Book of World Records for the longest chain link Yoga may take time but going by the number of people who took part in the record breaking event at the Palace its seems like Mysuru has achieved the feat in style. The number was double the previous record achieved by Kshatriya Vidhyasala Managing Board in Tamil Nadu with 3849 persons performing chain Yoga in November 14, 2014.

On Monday, hardwork for the past nearly ten days by the students, teachers, senior Yoga instructors, volunteers and district officials led by Deputy Commissioner D Randeep yielded fruit. According to the organisers, who had conducted a head count by providing hand band, 8381 students from various schools and colleges especially those studying from sixth standard to II PU turned out for the record breaking longest chain link Yoga event organised by district administration at Mysuru Palace premise.

The students after taking instructions from their respective teachers and volunteers, with lot of enthusiasm and sportsman spirit came out with a scintillating performance. Though the programme had to start at 11 am, the organisers, especially the instructors inorder to make sure that everything was perfect before the start of the main event took additional one hour to commence the event. After everything was on track, the instructors started the main event at 12 noon which was completed by 12.30 pm. The teachers, senior Yoga instructors, officials and sports hostel girls who looked into participants’ mistakes including the leg joints went all out in their effort to see that the students performed chain link Yoga to perfection. Prathiba, a teacher from Kautilya School not only voluntarily provided drinking water to her students but also provided it to other school children who had assembled for the event.

On instruction from senior Yoga practitioner Ranganath, the participants who had come from nearly 30 institutions took part in the main record breaking event. To start with, it was practice and the next two ones were the main events. Not only during the practice but also during both the main presentations, the students’ co-ordination was hit the target. The students performed four different Asanas “Veerabhadrasana-1” (Warrior Posture-1), “Trikonasana” (Triangle Posture), “Veerabhadrasana-2” (Warrior Posture-2) and “Prasaritha Padottanasana” (Wide Legged Forward Bend Posture) in just 2 mins, 30 seconds.

Speaking after the successful conduct of the event DC D Randeep said, “First of all, I want to thank all the participants and also instructors, volunteers and district officials who are responsible for the successful conduct of the event. Though we had some problems in arrangement, the students still managed to stay for nearly three to four hours. The proceeding of the event including video will be documented and sent to Guinness Book of World Record who will take a decision to confirm the record. In another 10 days, we will come to know of the result. Bharathi, Registrar, UoM was the observer. She will be sending her report in few days’ time.”

Ranganath, instructor for the main event said, “All the children came out with a good performance. Going by the performance, I am very confident that we will fair in the Guinness Book of World Records. It’s also for the first time that I have performed as an instructor for a world record Yoga event”.

Nearly 15 students faint:

Most of the students who had come for the event without having breakfast were found exhausted well before the start of the event. Due to nearly one hour delay in the start of the event, more than 15 participants fainted and were immediately attended to by the doctors. Dr. Yogesh along with five other medical staff who had come from K R Hospital provided the treatment. Dr. Yogesh said “The students who fainted didn’t have breakfast in the morning. But after providing them with glucose and banana they were alright. Many students though they were not feeling well were adamant on taking part in the record breaking event but due to the rise in temperature they couldn’t endure.”
