Exit polls go wrong for BJP in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Well, there you go. All exit polls have been proved wrong in deciding the BJP’s fortunes in Maharashtra.

The exit polls had rightfully predicted that BJP would emerge the single-largest party but had been generous on the seats given.

Today’s Chanakya, which was bang on about the general polls earlier this year, had given the BJP 151 seats. But the BJP is not likely to cross 110-112, clearly short of at least 30 seats required to get a simple majority.

ABP-Nielsen had given BJP 127 seats while C-Voter/India TV predicted 129. India News-Axis was somewhat closer having predicted 103 for the national party.

Reacting to the results, Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said exit polls were not always true. “The exit polls are managed many times and are not always true. Let’s us wait and watch for the final tally,” he said.
