Mangaluru: A wave of enthusiastic runners filled the streets of Mangaluru. Over 15,000 people are estimated to have taken part in the 10 km half marathon organised by Nitte University and DK Athletics Association on Sunday.
The event was flagged off by Mayor Harinath and Nitte Education Trust Chairman N Vinay Hegde at Mangala stadium.
Hegde addressing the gathering said that this was the fifth marathon of Nitte Education Trust and this year the Marathon has set a record in terms of participation.
Organised under various categories-5 km for high school boys and college boys, 3 km for high school girls, primary students (boys) and college girls, 21 km (half marathon) for men, women and seniors (46-60 years), special race for the differently-abled and 2 km for primary students (girls) as well as also 10 km run for men, women, and for senior citizens (in men and women categories) above 61 years of age, the event was a huge success as people took part in large numbers.
The runners passed through the thoroughfare- Mannagudda, New Chithra, Old Balaji theatre, Bunder, Rao and Rao Circle, Hampankatta, K S Rao Raod, PVS Circle, Lalbaugh, Bejai Kapikad, Kuntikan, Derebail, Kavoor, Bondel and return to Lalbaugh.
