Bantwal: The water shortage this summer has now hit Bantwal. Water supply in the municipality limits has been restricted to alternate days due to a shortage in Netravathi river. The water level has gone down in the catchment area making it difficult to pump water from there.
Now the water supply department authorities are trying to clear the sand around the catchment area to improve the water inflow so that the department can supply water once in two days.
Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik Ulippadi visited the catchment area and discussed the water pumping and distribution details with the water department engineers.
Speaking to the media the MLA said that since the water level was down pumping from the intake well was not possible. The water department engineers are trying to create bunds near the catchment area to collect water and later pump it for supplying drinking water to the public. They were also trying to pump water from old jack well. The MLA said that utmost care would be taken to avert any trouble to the people of the city due to water shortage.
