Mangaluru: United Muslim Front has decided to organise a ‘Mangaluru Chalo’ programme with the motto ‘Justice for Ahmed Qureshi’ on April 28 at Nehru Maidan.
Addressing a news conference, former mayor and Front Member K Ashraf said that Ahmed Qureshi, a resident of Surathkal and a painter by profession was illegally taken away by the police on pretext of interrogation, when the former was in the district court premises to appear before the court in an attempt to murder case.
Following this, Qureshi was kept in illegal confinement by the police, who tortured him to the extent that Qureshi’s kidney suffered 80 per cent injuries.
Terming the atrocities on Qureshi as one of the worst cases of human rights violations, Ashraf said that the act needs to be condemned and police need to learn a lesson.
He said that the protest rally planned on April 28 will be a peaceful movement against the injustice meted upon Qureshi to ensure that such incidents do not occur on future.
