Mangaluru: In a major breakthrough Mangaluru City Police on Wednesday arrested five youths in connection with brutal murder of Zubair(45) a BJP activist at Mukkacherry under Ullal Police limits.

Police Commissioner TR Suresh addressing a press meet said that the accused have been identified as Suhail, Nizamudin, Musthaffa, Tajuddin, Asif alias Manda Asif.

Police Commissioner also revealed that Asif among the arrested, had provided assistance to execute the crime. Still there are three more accused at large who were party to the crime.

In 2016, Zubair had filed a police complaint against the accused for their involvement in riots. And Zubair also had a difference with Muckacherry Mosque authority. Hence these are two strong reasons for the murder, informed police commissioner.

The accused will be produced before the court and taken into the police custody for further investigation.

He also said that two teams were formed to curb rowdyism in the city.

DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya, DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth and others were present during the press meet.

It may be recalled that Zubair(45) and his friend Illiyas were attacked with lethal weapons by a group of four persons on October 6th at Mukkacherry in Ullal. Zubair died on the spot.
