Mangaluru: The thrill for speed claimed the lives of two youngsters on Tuesday May 12 at Tannirbavi.
The deceased identified as Tasheel (21), son of Mohammed Rafiq, a resident of Falnir, was driving at high speed on the road from Kulur towards Tannirbavi beach when the car went out of control and veered off the road and fell into the river. Rafiq was accompanied by a girl, identified as parineethi from karwar, who also died in the accident.
Eyewitnesses say that the accident occurred when Tasheel was trying to overtake another vehicle at high speed. The the footpath and trees at the spot that generally act as a barricade, could not stop the car from falling into the river.
The police with the help of fire brigade, sand laborers and locals fished the car and the bodies from the river with the help of a crane.
