Sullia gets new KSRTC Depot

Sullia: A new KSRTC depot was inaugurated by the state Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy on July 15. Later he said that he Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation was rated the best in the country among transport corporations in the public sector.

“KSRTC, in the interest of the passengers has taken up several measures to bring in transparency in management and passenger services.

Over the past two years, KSRTC has bagged more than 100 awards and the government is emphasising making the transport system more passenger-friendly in the future,” Minister Reddy said.

“During the past four years, 76 bus stations and 40 bus depots have been established, with city services operational in 36 cities. KSRTC City services have received good response from the public and the same will be extended to several other cities in the future,” Minister Reddy said briefing about plans for the future.

Residential accommodations are being established for staff in Dharmasthala, Sullia and Madikeri at the cost of Rs 6 Crore and Sullia will get 11 staff quarters, he announced.

Forest and District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai sought for more services in the areas of passenger demand to counter competition from the private sector.

KSRTC Chairman and MLA K Gopal Poojary said, “The demand for setting up KSRTC depot in Kadaba and Karkala is being reviewed by the corporation. Proposal to set up bus depot at Subramanya could not materialise because of unavailability of land but will be established once the land is made available at a suitable location.

The chief minister has been requested to provide free bus passes to all students, the facility now available only for those from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.”

Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty, Zilla Panchayat President Meenakshi Shantigodu, Town Muncipal President Sheelavathi, Taluk Panchayat President Chaniya Kaltadka, KSRTC Directors Sudhir, Ramesh Shetty, Shaukat Ali and others were present in the function presided over by Sullia MLA Angara.
