Students in trouble as University creates mess of re-evaluation process

Mangaluru: They are all toppers! They had a dream of graduating with good marks. As expected, they passed with first class marks in all other subjects except in Corporate law. They applied for re-evaluation expecting more marks. But they were shocked to see the results of the re-evaluation declared because they got less marks this time due to the mistakes of evaluators of Mangalore University.
Mangaluru universityMangalore University is considered as one of the top universities in the state where students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagu districts come to study. This time, a mistake in the evaluation process has created a huge controversy.

Students from Sacred Heart college Madanthyar have gone to the University demanding justice as 9 of the top students have failed in the same subject. They got more than 100 marks in other subjects and failed only in Corporate law.

They hoped of getting good marks at least in the re-valuation. Four of the students got 10 marks less than the original marks and other two students got same marks, it is said. Now these students have sought help from the vice-chancellor. This is not the case of only four students but more than 1,300 Bcom students who appeared for exams in 2014-15 and failed.

Students have also complained that there have been mistakes in evaluating ‘corporate law’ subject as many of the toppers got less marks. Mangalore University had called for applications for re-evaluation before the results were declared and then they called students for re-exams before the results of re-evaluation were declared.

Even before the results of the re-evaluations were declared, students applied for re-exams.

On the last day of applying for re-exams, the University declared re-evaluation results. Students have complained that these mistakes are happening here as the University officers have been involved in money making rackets.

“Prof K Bhairappa is not available in the university. When we sought help from the vice-chancellor he said that there is no mistake in evaluation but students can request through their respective college principals to sort of out the issue”, said one of the students.

“There is a provision to give additional 10 marks to all the final year students who have passed in all other subjects and failed in one subject. But the University is playing with the life of the students and has not taken the issue seriously. Due to a mistake by the evaluators in Mangalore University, students who got admission abroad too have been trapped. The concerned persons must look into the issue and deliver justice to all the students”, another student told the media.
