Seven-month-old toddler dies, parents allege medical negligence

Puttur: With a seven-month-old toddler dying mysteriously, the parents and relatives of the child staged a stir outside a private hospital here alleging that the baby died due to medical negligence.

Chaitanya, daughter of Padmanabha and Vidya from Kodapadau Hosamane in Kolnadu village in Bantwal is the deceased.

The baby was suffering from fever, vomiting and had a swollen leg due to which she was admitted to Chatana hospital in Puttur. The baby recovered on Monday but on Tuesday it once again had health complication, following which the nurse administered some injection. After a while the child died and the parents claim that the injection led to the death.

Father of the child said that the nurse voluntarily administered the medicine even as the family insisting that the doctor be informed.

The parents and relatives of the child complained against the hospital alleging medical negligence.

Meanwhile, MLA Shakuntala Shetty visited the hospital and discussed with the doctors and consoled the parents.

Doctors, on the other hand clarified and issued a statement that the hospital is not responsible for the death of the child.
