Mangaluru: A day after Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader Ashraf (30) was hacked to death in broad daylight at Benjanapadavu of Bantwal, Illyas Mohammed Tumbe, National Chief Secretary of SDPI alleged that Sangh Parivar was involved in the murder of Ashraf Kalai.
Addressing a press meet, he said, “From the past one year, six innocents have been murdered by the Sangh Parivar and there are attempted murders on several. Hence the government should ban the Sangh Parivar for repeated violence in the country.”
“Dakshina Kannada district administration and police department have failed to prevent the repeated communal violence in the district. There are repeated incidents of stabbing, murder, attempt to murders in the district and Muslims are targeted”, he added.
He also demanded that the police department should immediately arrest the culprits involved in the crime and also those plotting communal violence in the district for political mileage. “Government should also provide proper compensation to Ashraf’s family. As District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai and police department have failed in curbing the communal violence, he should resign, Tumbe demanded.
He also blamed Rai for the police failing to arrest one of the accused in the murder Abdul Jaleel Korapadi despite Jaleel’s father naming him. “Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat is a criminal who is facing several cases. Though there is FIR on him, why is he not arrested? Is he above the law or constitution? Transferring the SPs is not a solution,” he said.
Siddiq Puttur, District President of SDPI; Iqbal Bellare, Secretary of SDPI and others were present during the press meet.
