Mangaluru: The non-profit organisation dedicated to provide humanitarian services, Rotary Club organized sports and games meet for all its members in the city. On the first Saturday and Sunday of December 2016, Mangala Stadium was host to ‘Bhaandhavya’ an initiative to unite Rotarians (Rotary club members) through a sports meet.
The two day intra-Rotary club meet saw an array of games and sports at the venue. There were a series of indoor games conducted on Saturday, December 3 (first day) at US Mallya Indoor stadium and outdoor sports competitions on the following day at Mangala stadium.
Indoor games conducted on the first day included Chess, carrom, badminton, throwball, table tennis and swimming at Mangala swimming pool. Shotput, discus throw, 200-mtr dash and long jump were organized on the second day. As many as 300 Rotarians participated in total of ages from under-10 categories to above 60 years category.
‘Bhaandhavya’ was inaugurated by district sports promoter Sadanand Shetty and Rotary Club Governor Dr. S Nagarjun. Addressing the gathering, Sadanand Shetty said, “After participating in sports while studying in school and college levels, it is good to see so much participation in sports even years after student life. Rotary Club has made it possible through this event for Rotarians to partake in sports activities on the same regard.”
Tournament Chairman Rajgopal Rai and Rotary Club Mangalore Central Secretary Raymond D’Cunha organized the event. Former District Governor Dr. Devdas Rai, Governor Elect Rohinath, Rotary Club Mangalore Central President Anil Gonsalves, Zone Chairman Gopalkrishna Shetty, Assistant Governors Vinayaka Prabhu and Vikram Dutt were present at the event.
