Sullia: The town which was experiencing a drought like situation a month ago is now experiencing the opposite with heavy rains accompanying winds lashing various parts of the taluk causing extensive damage.

Trees uprooted in Sullia due to heavy rains

Many trees were uprooted at several places, as a result of which most parts of the taluk experienced darkness as electricity supply was cut-off. The power supply which was cutoff on the afternoon of June 27 was not restored till late evening of June 28 and people were put to a lot of hardship without electricity.

A huge tree fell on a vehicle parking shed within the taluk panchayat premises and one more on a petty shop belonging to Meenkashi. Though no loss of lives is reported due to extensive rainfall, there were reports of damages from Kurunjibagh and Beeramangala areas of the town. Payaswini river is over flowing and many other water tanks in the taluk are now filled.
