Puttur police bust demonetized currency exchange racket; Rs 50 lac seized

Mangaluru: In a major crack down, Puttur Town police busted demonetized currency exchange racket and arrested three persons on Sunday. Police seized Rs 50 lakh worth demonetized currency notes in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations. The accused were nabbed when the cash was being transported from Madikeri to Mani in a white car without any documents, clearly for exchange.

The accused were arrested from Puttur Bypass Urlandi and have been identified as Mohammed Siraj (34), resident of Valalu, Abdul Haris (29), resident of Enjiradka and Nisar (28), resident of Bedrodi.

The accused also confessed that they have been exchanging demonetised currency in Mani.

Case has been registered in Puttur Town Police station.
