Police on lookout for Shiradi Ghat robbers, nabs another gang

Puttur: Probationery ASP Laxmana Nimbaragi led team cracked a separate robbery attempt case while patrolling on the National Highway 48, to trace the thieves who robbed a family in Shiradi Ghat on April 12.
Nimbaragi along with his team arrested five people who had weapons in their possession. Two others managed to escape.

An attempt to commit robbery case has been registered at Uppinangady police station against seven people.

Based on credible information that a gang is on their way to carry out robbery on the National Highway, the police who were patrolling nabbed a suspected gang, said Nimbaragi on Tuesday at a press meet at Uppinangady police station.

The arrested are Abdul Rahiman (34) from Kanthadka in Alake village in Bantwal, Mohammed Kabeer (51), from Kotemane in Uppinangady, Aboobakker (60) from Okkettur in Vittal, Adram (42) from Kanthadka in Vittal and Abdul Khader (42) from Kadavinabagilu in Uppinangady. Mohammed Puthu and Ibrahim from Vittal managed to flee, said ASP.

The police have recovered HP-26-0554 Qualis car, one single barrel rifle, five knives, 2 sickles, five torches, three monkey caps, two packets of chilli powder and a cash of Rs 69,500 from the arrested.

The police, who received the information about the robbery at Sakleshpura station limits, went to the spot at 11:30pm, took a person into custody and handed him over to the local police. The ASP led team who were checking vehicles near Gundya at around 3.30am, stopped a Qualis car. Seeing the police, two persons out of seven from the gang managed to escape. When they were interrogated they revealed that they were planning to burgle houses or rob vehicles in the area.

The operation was carried out as per the order from Puttur ASP Rishayanth, District Police SP Sharanappa and Additional SP Vincent Shanthakumar.

In the operation rural police inspector Anil Kulakarni, ASI Yogindra, Sanjeeva Rai, police staff Choma, Sudhakar, Shridhar, Radhakrishna, Madhu, Manohar, Chetan, Dinesh, Charan, Riju Thomas were present.
