Police arrest prime accused in kidnap case

Bantwal: In a joint operation, the Bantwal and Vittal police succeeded in nabbing a prime accused, Jogi Hanif involved in the kidnap of Monu Abdul Razak on Thursday, March 23.Monu Abdul Razak was abducted in a car on March19 after a three-member gang waylaid him and his friend Mansur on Vittal-Okketuur road. The kidnappers who robbed Razak of his mobile phone and cash worth Rs 10,000 later demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakhs for his release. Mansur informed the police of the kidnap where after police teams from Bantwal and Vittal immediately swung into action.

The police after receiving credible information about Hanif alias Jogi’s presence near Kodapadav bus-stand, dispatched a team led by Bantwal DySP Dr.Ravish and Vittal Sub-inspector H E Nagaraj to nab him. The police recovered Razak’s lost mobile, cash worth Rs 4000 and a knife used to inflict injuries on Razak from his possession.

On verification, police learnt that Hanif was a history-sheeter and had several cases registered against him in connection to abduction, drug peddling within Vital police station limits. The police are on the lookout for two of his accomplices who are on the run.

The police produced Hanif in the court which remanded him to judicial custody.
