Mangaluru: Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are called “IAS-producing factories” whereas Karnataka lags behind in the number of students aspiring for Indian Administrative Services (IAS) careers. The reasons for this trend are many including lack of awareness, very few coaching centres being serious and aggressive about it and so on.

To break this trend, the Universal Coaching Centre (UCC), has come up with an initiative to enthuse students, starting at the pre-university level, to take up careers in the elite all India services including IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS etc.

The Centre is organising the first-ever IAS Olympiad of the country. The founder of UCC, R Upendra Shetty said that under the unique programme, 20 students from each district of the state will compete in the Olympiad. The winner of the IAS Olympiad will get Rs 1 Lakh cash award. The final of the Olympiad will be held on April 8 at Shikshakara Sadana, KG road, Bengaluru.

This IAS Olympiad will be held in three rounds. In the first round, about 200 students of II PUC will compete at the district level with colleges participating in large numbers. The 20 best students from each district out of the total of 600, will compete at the state level.

“Even the students selected at the college level will be given IAS guidance by experts. They will be prepared in examination, interview skills, general knowledge etc. Online tests and online guidance will be provided for them. My dream is ensuring more number of IAS/ IRS/IFS, IPS officers from Karnataka,” adds Upendra Shetty.
