Mangaluru: Several days after former minister Krishna J Palemar leveled allegations supported by lab reports that the water pumped by the Mangalore City Corporation is contaminated with Coliform bacteria, Mayor Harinath on Friday, January 13 said that the allegations are far from truth and that the former minister was spreading rumours to misled the people.

Fecal coliforms found in drinking water supplied to Mangaluru by City Corporation!-1Addressing media persons here, Harinath said that after Palemar submitted a report claiming that major parts under the MCC limits were receiving water contaminated with coliform bacteria, the MCC too tested water from 21 places and found that there is no coliform in any of the sample.

Attacking Palemar for holding a press meet without bringing the matter to the attention of the MCC, MLA J R Lobo said that Palemar was unnecessarily sparking fear in the minds of Mangaloreans by making baseless statements.

It may be recalled Krishna Palemar had called upon the MCC to act fast after he found that water samples collected from several pockets of the MCC had coliform bacteria in them.

MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer among others were present.
