MCC budget 2017-18 at a glance

Mangaluru: The Mangalore City Corporation’s (MCC) budget for the year 2017-18 was presented by the standing committee president for taxes, finance and appeals, Appi, at the MCC auditorium in Mangalore on February 21, 2017.

Budget at a glance

 

Presenting the budget, Smt. Appi said, “MCC expects an income of Rs 99427.39 Lakh during 2017-18,i.e, an increase ofRs 33707.88 Lakh over the previous year”.

MCC expects 13 % from property taxes, 8 % from water bills, 4 % from building permits, 68 % through government grants, 2 % from sewage line permission, 2 % from MCC owned commercial rentals, 1% from industry permits, 1% from advertisements and 3 % from all others.

A major part of the expenditure has been allocated to administrative, health, hygiene, social welfare programmes, development of roads, maintenance of water and sewage systems within the corporation limits. Small budgetary allocation has been made towards beautification and development of parks and sports related activities including swimming. Thume dam land acquisition costs too figures in the expenditure towards water supply. 

The corporation expects funds to flow through Smart City project during the next five years duration where both central and state governments are expected to contribute Rs 200 Crore every year. In addition to the above financial assistance from AmruthScheme, 14th Finance Commission, Chief Minister’s City Development Fund, SFC grants and local area MP and MLA development funds are expected to help meet the targeted expenditure.
