Mangaluru: Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Kavitha Sanil has promised to favourably respond to all the calls and complaints of children with regard to any civic issues in the city. She also went to the extent of saying that she would abruptly stall any meeting if any student came to her chamber and give them a hearing.

She was interacting with the students of Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), a city based NGO in her chamber on April 25. As many as twenty students interacted with the Mayor on various civic issues including garbage disposal, malaria and traffic problems.

Getting emotional on a particular question, Kavitha recalled the tragic incident of the death of her brother in a road accident and said that if only he had worn a helmet, he would have been saved. “We all complain and find faults with the system but have we made efforts to understand our individual duties and responsibilities?”, she quipped at the young gathering.

Meanwhile, the students submitted a proposal of CIL’s year long activities regarding malaria awareness throughout the city involving school and college students. The proposal was submitted as a launch of the project on the World Malaria Day. The activities of the NGO includes awareness drives through a painting event, technical sessions for teachers and parents, active involvement of children in the field among others. The project envisages to mobilise as many as 10,000 children from schools in the city and work towards achieving the World Malaria Day Theme of 2017 as declared by the World Health Organization which is under the United Nations’ Organisation. The theme states “End Malaria for Good”.

The students also visited the Free Malaria Detection and Treatment Clinic of the Corporation and interacted with the lab technicians. They also had a brief interaction with Deputy Mayor Rajneesh Kapikad.
