Mangaluru: The Indian Railways will fulfill its 2014 budgetary promise of operating a day train between Mangaluru-Bengaluru via Hassan and Mysuru. As per a recent announcement the train will finally hit the tracks from March 1 onwards.
The railways got their act together after the high court issued a warning to the department on the basis of a writ petition filed by the Udupi Railway Yatri Sangha who were frustrated at the fact that the railway had failed to meet its promise and the department had been postponing the move.
The railways told the high court that the train operations would commence before March 31, 2017.
As per the time table released by the railways after the interim railway budget presented in 2014, the train was to leave Bengaluru at 8.30 am daily and reach Mangaluru at 9.15 pm. Likewise, the train which was to leave the city at 6.30 am was to reach Bengaluru at 7.30 pm.
In a release, president of the Sangha, R L Dias, noting that the railway officials have announced that the train would commence operations on March 1, termed it as a victory for the initiatives undertaken by the Sangha.
